What the tool does
A spindle tool that braces against the piston and presses the gudgeon pin out of the piston using thread force instead of blows.
When you need it
Piston changes, checking the con rod bearing, separating the piston from the con rod. Essential on pistons with a press fit pin.
How to use it
Remove the circlips on both sides and never reuse them.
Position the puller so the spindle braces on the pin and the yoke braces on the piston.
Turn the spindle evenly until the pin is free. Do not let the piston tilt while doing so.
When fitting, warm the piston slightly; the pin will then usually go in by hand.
A hammer and drift transmit the blow to the con rod. A bent con rod is usually only noticed once the piston seizes.
Always fit new circlips. A reused circlip springs out during operation and the pin scores a groove in the bore.
