What the tool does
The flywheel puller for the Italian Piaggio mopeds: M17x1 thread, hardened special steel, hardened pressure pin that spares the crankshaft during pulling.
When you need it
On the Ciao, Bravo and SI, the ignition sits under the flywheel. The flywheel has to come off for the contact breaker, capacitor, coils and the crankshaft oil seal on the ignition side.
Without pullerWith puller
Comparison: drag the slider. Hammer and levers on the left, the puller with its loose pressure pin on the right.
How to use it
Loosen the flywheel nut. Block the flywheel with a holding tool while doing so, not via the chain.
Screw the puller into the M17x1 thread of the flywheel as far as it will go.
Tighten the pressure screw until the taper releases with a crack. If the flywheel is stuck, give the pressure screw a light tap.
Remove the flywheel, secure the key.
The M17 threads on Piaggio flywheels are fine and quickly stripped. Improvised claw pullers pull on the outer edge and distort the thin flywheel.
Ciao flywheels have often been sitting for decades. Put some penetrating oil into the taper gap before pulling and let it work for ten minutes.
