What the tool does

A single feeler gauge blade made from steel, 0.40 mm thick with a red handle. Not a set, but exactly the one measurement constantly needed on classic moped ignitions.

When you need it

For setting the air gap of the ignition coil and lighting coil to the flywheel, and for checking the contact breaker gap where the manufacturer specifies 0.40 mm.

How to use it

  1. Turn the flywheel until the pole shoes sit exactly in front of the coil core.

  2. Slide the blade between the flywheel and the coil core. It must go through with slight resistance.

  3. Loosen the coil, press it against the blade, tighten it, pull the blade out.

  4. Check at several points around the circumference; unequal values indicate a poorly centred base plate.

Without this tool

Without a defined measurement, the coil sits either too far away (weak spark, dim lights) or too close (flywheel rubs, coil gets destroyed).

Workshop tip

Wipe the blade with a dry cloth before use. Oil on the blade falsifies the feel when pulling it through.

Fits

  • Hercules, Zündapp, Kreidler, Miele, DKW and KTM mopeds
