What the tool does
A small hand brush with brass wire. Brass is softer than steel and does not remove material from electrodes, contacts or threads when cleaning.
When you need it
Cleaning a sooted plug, brightening oxidised cable lugs and earth connections, cleaning threads before assembly.
How to use it
Remove the plug, brush the electrodes and insulator foot dry, then check the electrode gap.
Brush contacts and clamps until the metal is bright, then protect them with contact spray.
Steel brushes leave scratches and steel particles that can cause tracking currents on the insulator.
Do not brush plugs with a platinum or iridium electrode; the fine centre electrode gets damaged.
