What the tool does
A simple test lamp with a test probe and earth clamp for 6 to 24 volt electrical systems. It shows voltage without a meter needing to be set up.
When you need it
For determining the contact breaker opening point when setting the ignition, for fault finding on lights, horn, brake light, and for checking earth connections.
How to use it
Earth clamp on the engine or frame, test probe on the contact breaker terminal (with the ignition switched on or with an auxiliary battery).
Turn the crankshaft slowly in its running direction. The moment the lamp changes state is when the contact breaker opens.
Read the angle on the degree wheel or the travel on the dial gauge and compare it with the manufacturer's specification.
For fault finding: trace the voltage step by step from the source to the consumer until the lamp stays dark.
The opening point can only be roughly felt with a cigarette paper. When fault finding on the electrics, without a test lamp you end up swapping parts on suspicion.
On magneto ignitions without a battery, wire a small auxiliary battery (e.g. 4.5 V) in series with the lamp across the contact breaker.
Fits
- Hercules, Kreidler, Zündapp, Bergsteiger, Combinette and all 6, 12 and 24 volt electrical systems
Vehicle data according to the manufacturer data in the shop. If in doubt, measure thread and dimensions on the vehicle.
